    Antarctica – Extremes in climate and terrain are found on no other continent. Now with 4500 satellite scans, a striking view of Antarctica has been obtained in this beautiful National Geographic map which shows Antarctica in detail, with inset maps of ice flow velocity, surface elevation, ice sheet thickness, sea ice movement and wind flow. The reverse-side contains a large cut-away map showing Antarctica's bedrock landscape – mountains, valleys, and lakes, with various studies including ice core samples showing that greenhouse gasses from the burning of fossil fuels are higher now than any time in a half-million years. There are other studies of ice shelf melting and what Antarctica was like before the ice.
