Description
Hair 1968 Aquarius Theater, Los Angeles, Easel Stand PosterWhen Hair debuted on Brodaway in 1968 it was an immediate hit and poductions started popping up in cities all over the the States.
The first to debut, just a bit more than 6 months after the Broadway show, was at the Aquarious Theater in Los Angeles.
The LA production opened with the creators, James Rado and Gerome Ragni, as part of the cast and ran for over two years.
The Los Angeles tribe included original creators James Rado and Gerome Ragni as well as Robert Rothman, Ben Vereen (who later replaced Ragni), Red Shepard, Ted Neeley (who later replaced Rado), Meat Loaf, Gloria Jones, Táta Vega, Jobriath, Jennifer Warnes, and Dobie Gray.
This poster/stand is about as rare as they come.
2018 will mark the 50th anniversary of the Brodaway and LA versions of this American musical classic.
The New York Times noted, in 2007, that "Hair was one of the last Broadway musicals to saturate the culture as shows from the golden age once regularly did."
Songs from the show continue to be recorded by major contemporary artists.
It's a bit sad and ironic that many of the themes of the production (race, sex, war, youth culture, drugs, freedom) still resonate 50 years later!
100% original from the time of the production. Copyrighted 1968
Measures: 9" x 15"
Condition: Has never been used, easle has not been pulled open. Asisde from some edge wear it is in excellent condition and is ready to be framed
This is truely a RARE piece of American culture that will resonate for the ages and continue to escalate in value.
